Branding for Exalt Africa

CLIENT: EXALT AFRICA
DATE: JUNE - SEPTEMBER 2021
PROJECT DETAILS

Exalt Africa is a brand launched in September 2021 that showcases the luxury of African weddings, destinations, and products. I was responsible for designing the main crest logo, and submarks, and guiding the typography and font pairings for the brand.

The main crest symbolizes the beauty, nature, and strength of Africa, with elements such as the sun (shining light on the continent), flame lilies (the national flower of Zimbabwe), roses (romance), and pangolin scales (strength and resilience).

I paid tribute to the founder Mwai Yeboah with wooden florals and protea flowers to represent courage, diversity, and transformation. Tribal patterns highlight African culture and history.

A primary emblem and sun-inspired submark were created to complement the main crest, and a consistent, elegant font was used for a cohesive appearance.

“Nuanced piece of art”

We always strive to ensure meaning is at the core of everything we do - and our logo is no different. We are so grateful to the talented Roseanna of Rosey & Co. for putting an incredible amount of thought into the brilliant, story-driven crest logo and complimentary branding she crafted for us.

Roseanna designed the main crest logo to encompass an array of elements that highlight the natural beauty of Africa, the strength of her people, and the limitless possibilities that lie within her walls.

We always say Africa is a world of many wonders—a fortress that protects and houses endless possibilities—and we are so in awe of how beautifully that story comes through in this nuanced piece of art. Thank you, Roseanna, for your inspiring work!

MWAI YEBOAH - FOUNDER OF EXALT AFRICA
PROJECT OVERVIEW

Exalt Africa is a brand launched in September 2021 that showcases the luxury of African weddings, destinations, and products. I was responsible for designing the main crest logo, and submarks, and guiding the typography and font pairings for the brand.

When creating the main crest logo, I aimed to capture the essence of the brand and highlight the beauty, nature, and strength of Africa. The sun at the top of the crest symbolizes shining a light on the continent and uplifting its people. Africa is renowned for its stunning sunsets and sunrises, particularly along the Zambezi River in Zambia.

The florals within the crest were carefully selected to represent specific aspects of Africa. The flame lilies (Gloriosa) are native to southern Africa and are the national flower of Zimbabwe. The roses symbolize romance and highlight the beautiful roses grown in Kenya.

Pangolins are protected and endangered anteaters and their strong scales are interwoven within the crest to symbolize the strength and resilience of the continent.

To pay tribute to the founder of Exalt Africa, Mwai Yeboah, I included wooden flowers in the crest to showcase her use of African artisanal goods in her luxury destination weddings and events. The crest is anchored at the bottom with protea flowers, which are native to South Africa, the Rainbow Nation. Proteas represent courage, diversity, and transformation. The foliage throughout the logo was inspired by the lush flora and fauna around Victoria Falls in Livingstone, Zambia.

Finally, I included tribal patterns to highlight the African continent and its people as a whole. These patterns and markings are rich in tradition, culture, language, and history.

To enhance the visual identity, I created a primary emblem and a sun-inspired submark to complement the main crest logo. A consistent font was utilized across all branding elements to ensure a cohesive and elegant appearance.
