Are The ‘What Ifs’ Holding You Back?

Are the what if's holding you back in your wedding business?

I recently went through a bit of metamorphosis in my thinking. I have always held myself back from worrying about the 'What Ifs. Not all the time. I allowed myself enough 'risk' to have a business that ticked over, paid the bills etc. But I never allowed myself to speak up for my brand and skills in a way that I deserved.

I came to the conclusion that this way of thinking was holding me back. So, I found a way to eliminate my fear by writing down and brainstorming the 'risks'. I created a little formula of sorts that helped me and I hope it will help you too!

Does this sound like you?

read on!

I have always monitored myself and my actions - especially in my business a little too much. I got to the point recently when I realised, I can't do this forever. To really excel in my business, I did need to take more risks. These risks, however, were never really risks - but they were in my mind!

Also, I was bored! Bored of being average, and too shy. I was bored of being scared to share my opinions, scared to show myself. Does this sound like you?

But What If?

- What if my reel doesn't get any views?

- What if people find my content boring?

- What if I quote appropriately for my time and experience then the client says it is too expensive?

These are all valid concerns. Have you been living in the 'What If' fear with your business?

Are you so fearful of failure that you don't try new things? Are you a perfectionist or an over-analyser - read on - these tips may help!

Think about this

It doesn't feel safe for your business to NOT grow, especially in the economic times we are living in now.

Constantly fearing failure is not going to get you more clients and money to then feel secure and pay your bills. Fear of the 'what if's will hold you back - there are no two ways about it.

If like me, you are an analyser or a perfectionist it is so hard to break this way of thinking.

But, if you follow these steps that I have designed to destroy my own 'what if' conundrums hopefully it will help you to see clearly the real level of risk.

Whatever you are contemplating may not even have any real risk at all!

Here is a scenario for you

A ‘What If?’ Scenario with some steps to get you into a more positive headspace:

“I want to share more content but 'what if' my followers find it boring?”

STEP No. 01

Ask Yourself - how big is the risk?

If it is simply the risk of losing a few followers - is it really that bad? Ask yourself, am I really going to get so terribly hurt by that? Physically or mentally? Write it down and brainstorm the worst that could happen.

STEP No. 02

Accept that there is always a risk to anything. Usually, Tiny. Rarely big.

Simply accept that some of your followers really will find some of your content boring. It might not relate to them. They may not have a real need for what you are sharing or teaching them. They may unfollow you and that's okay.

By accepting this early on, you will be less shocked or disheartened if you do lose a few followers.

STEP No. 03

Then ask yourself - what can I gain from taking this 'risk' even if I did lose followers?

What will you gain even if you lose some followers after posting your new content or posting more? Brainstorm the positives that will potentially come out of it. For example:

- You will have lost a follower or two who are not your ideal client.

- Someone who follows your new content may find what you share very helpful.
They may learn something useful to their business from you and may refer you to their friends.

- That friend may become a client one day for you.

- Hey, you may lose 20 followers (I did recently when I started sharing different content) but you will most likely end up with a smaller but stronger following.

- That following will grow over time.

- You might end up with a community that absolutely loves your content and become loyal ambassadors and clients for your brand!

STEP No. 04

Do that thing that you were holding back on doing because of the 'What If's! Please let me know how you get on and if this helped you in any way.

One final tip

Most of the time no one is really watching!

So, you will most likely need to do the thing you fear doing multiple times to see any small element of negativity from it.

The same with the positive's outcomes - which will, by the way, far outweigh the negatives the more you eliminate the fear of 'what if'?!
