Sharing with you today this romantic impressionist inspiration wedding shoot in Provence, that was recently featured on The White Wren. Exquisite photography, pretty pastels, the perfect Provençal venue and an abundance of romantic details make up this remarkable shoot.

Photographer Kristin Sautter and Stylist / Planner & Designer Ajna of Oui, Mon Coeur, offered me free reign to go 'all out on artistic details for my paper contribution. The result was a mix of dappled paints, white wax seals, illustrations, paintings and an eclectic mix of the loveliest of paper. Read on for more details on how I created the paper goods for this dreamy shoot.

The White Wren

Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir was the inspiration behind the shoot and in particular his way of creating a scene 'drenched in light'. For the invitation, I wanted to keep the pastels soft and with a sense of light streaming.

The main invitation details were printed on a layer of vellum paper which was then layered on a backing of fluffy handmade paper. This background was then covered in its entirety in soft pastel-dappled paint in acrylics and watercolours.

By using two different paint mediums I was able to create a sense of 'light leaking' the added layer of vellum on top gave a lovely airy feel to the design. Renoir's Meadow (La Prairie), c. 1880 gave the ultimate hint to the inspiration behind the suite in the form of an art print envelope liner.

Contained within the suite were a little details card and an information card both printed onto beautiful off-white fluffy handmade paper. The painting on the details card adds a nod to the rustic duck egg-toned shutters at Bastide de Toursainte the stunning venue.

For the information card, I decided to paint some florals in pinks, yellows, greens and blues. I kept the fonts elegant and minimal to keep the focus on the artwork. The same thick handmade paper was used for the place cards which were also adorned with paint daubs in acrylics and watercolours akin to the invitation.

The names were calligraphed in white ink upon a thin layer of vellum and white silk ribbons to finish.

The menu was printed onto thin recycled Islamic Sunn hemp paper which had the most beautiful organic edges. The paper had a soft yellow hue with the font again, with a minimal feel to balance the enhanced detail within the neighbouring place cards.

Watered-down white acrylic was organically applied to the menus, almost as if Renoir himself have brushed across them by mistake whilst deep in thought working in his studio!

The invitation suite was tucked within a wrap made with the same recycled Islamic Sunn hemp paper as the menus. I highlighted the beautiful organic edges with paint daubs and some non-accidental flecks of paint here and there. The wrap was then sealed with a white foliage wax stamp atop a band of silk ribbon.

Planner & Designer Ajna of Oui, Mon Coeur created a vignette with antique crystal champagne coupes and an antique footed silver champagne bowl.

I created little scrolls that were wrapped around the stems of each edible flower-filled champagne glass. This served as a 'seating plan'. I was in the fortunate position of having some old used painting canvas that would work perfectly as the material for the little scrolls with its little marks of paint in soft whites.

They were finished on the edges with more pastel colours to suit the rest of the stationery. The names and table numbers were calligraphed on top in mid-blue.
