PROJECT DETAILS

My client Mwai was planning a Black Panther (a Marvel Studio movie) shoot as a tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman. She wanted to have the shoot featured in ‘Africa's version of Vogue’, Nubian Bride Mag, I created concept visuals in watercolour to showcase the scenes for the editor. This way, they could give a yes or no to block out the pages for the shoot before it took place.

Mwai and I spoke over the phone about the scenes she wanted me to create, along with details, costumes, and settings. I created the scenes in watercolour using the information she has given me along with her mood boards.

The scenes were scanned and sent to the editor at Nubian Bride Magazine. With those paintings, they could see how the shoot would look and could then approve the shoot for the magazine issue. This also meant that Mwai was able to apply for access to Victoria Falls to film the shoot - which was a feat in itself.

The shoot took place soon after, with the floral designers and stylists using the concept visuals I created as a guide for styling the scenes.

The shoot was actually given a front cover feature and went on to win an award.
